Is Norway a Failed State?

"Embassy bombing" and things like that are nothing new, if you watch nightly news that they promote malted milk and such other commodities. Terrorists attacks, under-protected embassies all around the world, over and over again in failed states such as Afghanistan and Somalia. But for strange reason, Norwegians also joined this disgraceful club this week by vandalizing the Sri Lankan embassy.

Sri Lanka is a poor country with much corruption, a war, and so many other things we are not proud of. We are number 20 in failed states list. But we never failed to protect our embassies to our best, even while we vigorously protest front them for so many reasons. Norway is a beautiful country, with peaceful, soccer loving people. I can’t understand what made Norwegians to behave like Afghan or Somali terrorists. Maybe they were having too much Absolute this week. Or maybe they were having Lutefisk with too much lye, since last Christmas. Or may be Norway is a failed state like so many other failed states around the world. Whatever the reason it may be, I would like to pass my friend Ole a little advice I received from my class teacher in the unholy days of JVP era. "If you sleep with dogs, you will wake up with ticks".

Your rationale is severely flawed. Perhaps you should look up what actually constitutes a failed state. It is a continuum of factors. To even consider Normay a failed state, is to flirt with idiosyncracy.

Protests have traditionally been very lightly policed in Norway, because Norwegian demonstrators can be trusted not to vandalise property. Most Norwegians were shocked that immigrants who were supposedly integrated well into Norwegian society would do something like this. The Gaza protests also turned violent, again thanks to demonstrators of immigrant background.

Anyway, the police have apologised profusely to the Sri Lankan embassy, and Tamils will find that in future their protests in Norway are much more heavily guarded. I'm also personally sorry that we weren't able to protect your country's embassy better. I think most Norwegians would say the same thing.
